BHP Billiton

Overview

Worsley Alumina in Western Australia manages one of the world’s largest alumina refineries. The operation is a joint venture between BHP Billiton, Japan Alumina Associates (Australia) Pty Ltd and Sojitz Alumina Pty Ltd, of which Worsley Alumina manages. With an expected production capacity of 4.6 million tonnes, the refinery is expected to be one of the most productive in the world.

As workers on these sites are in mine shafts for extended periods of time and face very demanding shifts, they require a lot of ice to maintain consistently cool drinks. It is estimated that ice usage per person on these sites was estimated to be around 1.5kg per day.

BHP Billiton utilised Hoshizaki's expertise and industry leading knowledge to come up with a solution to their Ice Dispensing needs.

Solution

Not only were the machines required to keep up with the high demand from Minesite workers, but they also needed to maintain this efficiency throughout hotter temperatures. Our minesite Ice Dispensers can produce up to 429kg over a 24 hour period, due to our innovative internal mechanisms and stainless steel components.

Whilst poor water quality can be the primary cause of equipment break down, our Commercial Ice Makers are designed with a double-flushing system, therefore allowing the machines to self clean and efficiently produce more clean, hard ice.

Results

Hoshizaki have supplied a number of DB-200H Worksite models to BHP Billiton, providing a reliable and hygienic Ice dispenser for staff to use.
